CO2 has attracted widespread attention because of the environmental deterioration problem from its excessive emissions. The electrochemical reduction of CO2 to multi-carbon products is a promising option for tackling carbon emissions and restoring renewable electricity. Optimizing the morphology and enhancing the oxygen vacancy of Cu2O has proven to be an effective strategy for boosting conversion of CO2 to C2 products. Here, we used a halogen-containing ionic liquid, 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, to tailor the morphology of Cu2O nanoparticles and increase its amount of oxygen vacancies, which exhibited excellent performance for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to multi-carbon products.
