Are there any correlations among aspects of social acceptance of artificial intelligence (AI)? We investigated the correlation between people’s perception of whether AI can have consciousness and their attitudes toward AI replacing human jobs. We designed asynchronous Café philosophique to allow people to drop in the physical space anytime during the day of the event and asked them to leave their opinions on social aspects of AI. The data collection method is relevant because it offers a forum for general public to discuss ideas freely. Our analysis shows two results: (1) Whether AI can have consciousness does not significantly impact attitudes toward job replacement; and (2) factor analysis revealed two dimensions: public and private.
