[4C3-GS-11-02] Career Transition Patterns of Engineers Based on Work History Data
Keywords:skill management, engineer, career path
Science and technology are developing rapidly, as exemplified by recent innovations in the field of artificial intelligence. With such a development, engineers' knowledge and skills are becoming more diverse, and their career paths are expected to diversify as well. However, it is still unclear what career paths engineers take. The purpose of this study is to clarify the career transition patterns of engineers using work history data. The analysis reveals that engineers are classified as specialists in a single industry and generalists with experience in multiple industries and that the proportion of generalists increases with age. We also discussed the transition between industries and the impact of multiple-industry experience on careers.
