Keywords:liquid transport,wharf roach

Coastal animal Ligia exotica commonly called wharf roach has open-air microstructures that transport water on surface of legs. The biomimetic open-air channels are capable of liquid transport by using capillary force derived by the microstructures. The velocity of liquid transport in the vertical direction is accelerated by arrangement of microstructures. Also, slight change of microstructures improved transport distance. In this research, we investigate the velocity of liquid transport in the vertical direction of a series of samples with different arrangement, and discuss the relationship between the transport velocity of liquid and arrangement of microstructures.
