To raise the reaction stabilities of Cu2O photocathodes for reduction of water, we examined the compositing effect of TiO2 layers on the Cu2O photocathodes using an excimer-laser-assisted metal organic deposition (ELAMOD) process. By using the ELAMOD process, the highly crystalized TiO2 layers were successfully composited on the Cu2O photocathodes without oxidation of Cu2O to CuO which causes the decline of performance of water reduction. The TiO2/Cu2O photocathode obtained had the same level of water reduction performance as the bare Cu2O. Moreover, the water reduction performance of the TiO2/Cu2O photocathode was constant by reaction time while that of the bare Cu2O photocathode was declined, indicating that the TiO2/Cu2O photocathode obtained was chemically high stable.
