[15p-418-1] Can optical vortex change laser materials processing?

We proposed optical vortex materials processing, in which melted or softened materials receive orbital angular momentum to form various unique structures, such as chiral needles, monocrystalline needles, and monocrystalline micro-spheres in the atmosphere and at a room temperature. In this presentation, we detail the state of art of nanostructures formation by illumination of optical vortices. We also report on advanced optical vortex laser sources, in particular, a widely tunable mid-infrared optical parametric vortex laser.
