[16p-P9-35] Scintillation properties of thulium doped calcium fluoride crystals in VUV region

A radiation detector combining a proportional counter that is filled with an organic gas sensitive to vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light and a scintillator that emits luminescence at the wavelength of the VUV region (VUV scintillator) has been reported, however conventional Nd-doped VUV scintillators have not been put into practical use due to their low light yields. In this study, we focused on VUV luminescence of Tm3+ ions. Scintillation properties of Tm:CaF2 crystals with various dopant concentrations were evaluated.
