Keywords:negative ion source, neutral beam heating, low work function

Introduction of Cs into a negative hydrogen ion source for neutral beam heating enlarges the intensity of large area beam current through realizing a low work function Mo plasma grid (PG) surface. In an attempt to avoid Cs injection into the beam acceleration system, a C12A7 electride is tested the possibility to serve as a PG for a H- ion source. A computer simulation code ACAT (Atomic Collision in Amorphous Target) was run to construct an energy distribution function of H- formed on the electride surface immersed in hydrogen plasma. The comparison between the simulation result and the experimentally measured H- energy distribution function has shown a good agreement.
