Photothermal pump-probe spectroscopy makes it possible to evaluate the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity and the anisotropy (birefringence) of the refractive index of a material from the temperature dependence of the refractive index. We developed a detector to analyze the spatial anisotropy of the divergence of the probe light and succeeded in detecting the anisotropy of the thermal conductivity and the refractive index by combining microscopy with photothermal spectroscopy. In this study, we conducted an experiment using cellophane as a sample and showed that the thermal anisotropy of the sample can be detected by this method.
