[11a-W611-1] Irradiation of Gas-Temperature-Controlled Helium Plasma Jet to Fission yeast
Keywords:fission yeast, plasma jet, cell cycle
To evaluate the effects of direct plasma irradiation to living organisms, we have selected fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) as a model organisms. Fission yeast is a rod-shaped unicellular eukaryote. The gas temperature of plasma jet was controlled by a Peltier device which ensures constant gas temperature (room temperature) during plasma treatment. After 1 day incubation, about 5% of the fission yeast cells in the vicinity of plasma irradiation point exhibited elongated shape. This result suggests that the cell cycle was impaired by plasma exposure. Direct plasma irradiation to various cell cycle mutants is now underway.
