[9a-M135-8] Effect of surface morphology on the femtosecond infrared luminescence in noble metals

Keywords:luminescence, noble metals, surface roughness

Intense femtosecond infrared luminescence has been observed in bulk noble metals (Au, Ag, Cu and Pt). We investigated the correlation of luminescence intensity, absorption and the surface roughness. We found that the absorption increases as the roughness increases, and that the luminescence intensity is approximately proportional to the square of the absorption. This fact suggests that the increase of emissivity is the cause of the enhancement of the luminescence by roughness.
