Keywords:plasmon

Submicroscale microstructures with metallic surfaces such as gold and silver can be used as sensing chips using both plasmon excitation and grating coupling. Previously, we reported that fine barnacle-like structures have a potential for sensing chips and such structures can be formed easily. In this study, we elucidated the mechanism of formation of barnacle-like structures. Based on this, the influence of the modified structural features to the sensing characteristics was also investigated.
