[9p-PB1-62] Analysis of motion of the object manipulated by light under magneto-Archimedes levitation
Keywords:magneto-Archimedes, light, non-contact manipulation
Non-contact optical manipulation of an object levitated in a magnetic field by magneto-Archimedes effect was demonstrated. The sample, SrAl2O4:Eu, Dy/polypropylene complex, was put into a glass tube filled with pressurized oxygen gas, and the glass tube was inserted into the superconducting magnet bore (11.0 T), which makes the sample levitate in the glass tube. To realize the noncontact manipulation of the sample, UV light (λ=375 nm) was irradiated onto the sample. As a result, the sample moved upward due to the decrease of magnetic susceptibility of the sample. Through the analysis of the sample position, we estimated the degree of the magnetic susceptibility change. Besides, we measured temporal change of intensity of emitted light after turning off the UV light and estimated the degree of magnetic susceptibility. Comparing these two results, we found that the motion of the sample is much slower than we estimated by optical property. Therefore, we also added another analysis of the motion, considering the effect of frictional force by oxygen gas. Making use of the all analyses mentioned above, we investigated the kinetics more precisely. The details of the mechanism will be discussed in the presentation.
