New cathode active material with high charge-discharge capacity is expected for lithium ion battery to be applied to hybrid and electric vehicles. Crystalline materials have so far been utilized as the cathode active material. The discharge capacities are limited by their structures. In this research, we focused on the glasses (amorphous) and glass ceramics with many atomic-sized voids. We have developed a chromium-containing vanadate glasses as the cathode active material.
