Metal-air battery has a very high energy density because it could use atmospheric oxygen as the electrode active material. This rechargeable battery needs bifunctional catalytic materials, which involve effective oxygen reduction / evolution reactions at the air electrode at the discharge/charge process. We have so far developed new bifunctional catalytic materials for the air electrode using vanadate glasses without noble-metals and minor metals. In this study, new vanadate glass catalysts containing 3d-block elements were developed and its electrochemical performance was evaluated.
