Multijunction solar cells, which are copmosed of stacked PN junctions with different absorption bands, can achieve high efficiency by effectively utilizing the solar spectrum. Typical multijunction solar cells are a two-terminal type, in which sub-cells are connected in series, but there is a problem in mismatch loss due to fluctuation in solar spectrum due to current matching between cells. Against this background, we have investigated three-terminal multijunction solar cells. The smart stack technology for stacking solar cells using Pd nanoparticles is a technology for easily forming multijunction solar cells. In this study, we used smart stack technology to develop back-contact-type solar cells. A three-terminal tandem solar cell using a back-contact-type Si bottom cell was fabricated.
