[13p-A405-9] Growth and electronic properties of metal-phthalocyanine ultrathin films on In/Si(111)

Double-atomic-layer indium on Si(111) exhibits two-dimensional (2D) metallic properties. Metal-phthalocyanine (MPcs: CuPc, CoPc and FePc) ultrathin films were grown on the In/Si(111) substrate by MBE. In the initial stage, flat-lying MPc molecules form same 2D structure commensurate with the substrate. Photoelectron spectroscopy measurements showed a significant modification of molecular electronic states in a different manner. On the monolayer film of CuPc, the ligand HOMO state seems to be split into two states. For CoPc and FePc, the 3d (eg) state is shifted to higher energies compared to those of their thick films, indicating the important role of the out-of-plane orbitals of the central metals in the bonding at the interface.
