Keywords:Carbon dioxide, Electroreduction, Fuel cell

We developed a fuel cell that generate CH4 and electric power by feeding CO2 and H2 independently. By employing Pt electrode and polymer electrolyte membrane, CO2 reduction is found to occur without overpotentials. This electroreduction enabled to make electricity in combination with the H2 electrooxidation for the first time. In addition, an elimination method of poisoned electrode by the reduction intermediate of CO is proposed. The updated Faradaic efficiency of the CH4 production is 18.2% that is further in the progress.
