LiNixMnyCozO2 (NMC, x+y+z=1), a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries with a layered rock salt structure, has high capacity, low cost, and high safety compared to conventional materials, and is expected to be applied in electric vehicles. In recent years, it has been reported that the battery performance of NMCs can be improved by developing compositionally graded materials, in which the composition is continuously changed from the inside to the top surface, but there is no report on thin films. In this study, we report the successful synthesis of LiNi0.67Mn0.33O2 epitaxial thin films as a preliminary step for the synthesis of compositionally graded NMC thin films.
