Keywords:unknown phonon mode, silicon germanium alloy, simulation

An unidentified phonon mode was discovered using inelastic X-ray scattering techniques [Yokogawa et al. Appl. Phys. Lett., 116, 242104, (2020)] and has yet to be identified. To shed light on this phonon mode, phonon dispersion relations of SiGe alloys were simulated to observe the effect of an atomic mass difference. The unknown mode shifts frequency according to whether the atomic mass has been increased or decreased. Changes in the intensity of the unknown mode are also observed.
