[21p-A307-3] Demonstration of bandgaps and topological boundary modes in a one-dimensional mechanical metamaterial

A wave machine is used to demonstrate spatially damping waves in a bandgap and topological boundary modes of wave phenomena in classical dynamical systems. By adding additional weights to the tips of periodically selected rods of the wave machine, or by changing the distance between the rods periodically, optical branches and band gaps are added to the dispersion relation. The discontinuous portion can be regarded as a bulk interface between two different topological phases, and a topological boundary mode is generated there.
