Electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (EC-STM) is a powerful technique to observe redox reactions at the solid-liquid interface at the single-molecule level. However, the method for adsorbing isolated redox-active molecules at the solid-liquid interface has not been established, which hinders single-molecule measurements. In this study, we found a method to fabricate an isolated monolayer of ferrocene based on a tripodal molecule and successfully measured the redox reaction of a single ferrocene molecule by EC-STM.
