By sandwiching a nonvolatile-volatile mixture between two substrates with a photo-thermal conversion structure and irradiating a laser beam outside the part where the liquid is bridged by the upper and lower substrates (reservoir), microdroplets are generated, and these droplets also show biological spontaneous motion. In this report, we compare the droplet behaviour in a uniformly deposited gold film on a transparent glass substrate, gold nanoparticles adhered to the substrate and free gold nanoparticles dispersed within the droplet, respectively, as a photothermal conversion structure, and discuss the principle behind this.
