Underground transmission facilities have experienced less damage by earthquakes in the past compared to ground transmission facilities. Therefore, the electric industry has no seismic design standards for underground facilities commonly applied to all electric power companies. This study was carried out by electric technology research with the aim of systematizing the seismic design of underground transmission facilities.
One of the features of this research is to consider options that can omit seismic design. In this paper, based on the examples of damage caused by earthquakes, we report on the possible conditions of seismic design in "pipe" of the underground transmission facilities.
