Dam in Japan are designed for “dam design flood discharge” specified in the structural ordinance enacted in 1976. On the other hand, in recent years, large-scale floods, which have never been experienced before, and the scale of floods due to climate change are of concern. Against this background, this study aims to contribute to the future safety assessment of dams by comparing the design standards of in Japan and other countries and regions. As a result, dams in foreign countries / regions and Japanese dams differ in the concept of setting the design discharge.
