[II-189] Effects of gravel particle shape on particle motion

The gravel bed river is composed of particles of various shapes and sizes, and it is known that not only the particle size distribution but also the particle shape affects the sediment transport. In this study, the purpose was to clarify the effect of particle shape on particle motion by conducting numerical movable bed experiments with gravel of different shapes and uniform size.The experimental results showed that the effect of the particle shape clearly appeared especially in the pick-up process. As a result of analyzing the pick up rate of between the thin and rod particles, the difference in the two shapes was remarkable especially at high tractive force.
