We, Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy (JSPM), have been performing various activities for the sake of promoting researches on powder and powder metallurgy and of providing communication and cooperation opportunities between them, aiming for scientific developments as well as progresses in technologies in this PM field. Four years have passed since the memorial international conference, JSPMIC2017, which was held for our 60th anniversary in 2017.

Meanwhile, a pandemic of COVID-19 for about two years from the end of 2019 to present has forced people to change their lifestyle. Its influence has become so large on researchers and technicians as well, resulting somehow in declines in their researches, production and consumption, and so on. In the pandemic situation, the annual meetings were forced to be held online to prevent the increase in new infections.

Fortunately, the new cases in Japan decreased from around September 2021, and the pandemics seem to subside. Thus, here we have decided to hold the international conference on powder and powder metallurgy in autumn, 2022, Kyoto (JSPMIC2022) in order to offer an opportunity of scientific presentations and to increase communication among researchers both in academic and industrial and in between.

An urgent issue for humankind is the realization of a carbon-neutral society. Various efforts are underway to achieve the carbon-neutral society. At JSPMIC 2022, we may be able to find innovative development directions for the future, including tips on technologies and products that are needed for carbon neutrality in many of the powder metallurgy areas, such as energy-related materials, infrastructure, industrialization, and technological innovation, capacity building, and sustainable production and consumption.

JSPM covers and supports these research/technology fields. We call for submissions to JSPMIC2022 from all areas of PM fields, besides invited papers on some highlighted topics. JSPMIC2022 will be held in beautiful autumn in Kyoto, Japan.
