[1Bp01(招待講演)] Carbon sulfonation for synthesis of catalyst for cellulose conversion using plasmas in contact with dilute sulfuric acid
Sulfonated carbon materials have been focused on as catalysts for cellulose hydrolysis used in the process of biofuel production from cellulose. In this study, sulfonation of carbon materials was performed by generating plasma on dilute sulfuric acid where carbon materials were suspended. In contrast to the conventional hydrothermal method, carbon sulfonation was achieved in a short time at room temperature with a reduced concentration of sulfuric acid. The amount of sulfonic group was equivalent to that of hydrothermal method. The glucose yield, cellulose conversion, and glucose selectivity of the carbon catalyst obtained by plasma treatment were higher than those obtained by hydrothermal method. The plasma-treated carbon catalyst also showed less degradation of catalytic performance after repeated use. The sulfonation process by SO3 and HOSO2 radicals generated in the gas phase from sulfuric acid molecules was proposed in the plasma treatment.
