[1P17] Diarylethene clusters on Ag(111) studied by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy
Two isomers of photochromic diarylethene called closed-form and open-form isomers were deposited on Ag(111) and their adsorption structure was observed using low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. Depending on the deposition and post-annealing conditions, various types of clusters were confirmed. The numbers of molecules within the clusters are much more than the case on Au(111), which implies that the intermolecular interactions play a dominant role in the formation of clusters on Ag(111).
