[1P16] Co-adsorbed perylene and bromine on Au(111)
Perylene molecules coadsorbed with bromine on a Au(111) surface were observed by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). In the perylene monolayer, (4x4) superstructure with the molecular plane parallel to the surface is formed. Bromine is molecularly adsorbed on the perylene monolayer in the initial stage of the dosage, showing a different contrast in STM images. As the bromine amount increases, the bromine penetrates into the perylene layers causing the change of the orientation and super structure of the perylene molecules. Tilted perylene molecules seem to form cofacial stacking dimers or one-dimensional rows.
