[1K0301-10-01] [Student presentation: Master’s course] The effects of surface-modified ilmenite as the carrier on the recovery of monazite by magnetic separation
Chairperson : Atsushi Iizuka (Tohoku University)
Keywords:rare earth elements, monazite, magnetic separation, surface-modified carrier
Indonesia is the second largest producer of tin (Sn) after China. The processing output from the alluvial deposit is tin tailing, the annual production of which is equivalent to~40% of the total feed of processing. As tailings from Indonesian tin mines are rich in rare earth minerals like monazite and xenotime, it can be considered potential resources for rare earth elements (REEs). Magnetic separation techniques have been commonly used to recover rare earth minerals, but its application is limited to recover fine magnetic minerals. To address this problem, this study investigated the effects of surface-modified ilmenite particles as a carrier to improve the recovery of finely-ground monazite by magnetic separation.
