Open Symposium Saturday, March 30, 2024
The symposium will be co-organized by Science Council of Japan, Union of Japanese Societies for Insect Sciences, Entomological Society of Japan, and Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology. Live streaming will be available in parallel with the on-site symposium. Anyone can join the symposium on-site or on-line with pre-registration. Participation is free of charge. Details will be posted on the Union of Japanese Societies for Insect Sciences website.
Purpose of the symposium
For the general public, insect sciences would be accepted as "the studies of identification and classification of insects" or "the studies of insect pest control". Therefore, the broad scope of insect science is not well known currently. To break through this situation, we propose this symposium as an opportunity to publicize the broad scope of insect sciences, which contributes to understanding the diversity and commonality of insects and other invertebrates.
This symposium consists of the following four sections: (1) Activity reports of the Subcommittee on Applied Entomology of the Committee on Agricultural Sciences of the Science Council of Japan and the Union of Japanese Societies for Insect Sciences; (2) Academic lectures I: Beyond Scientific Fields; (3) Scientific lectures II: Across Oceans; and (4) Introduction of the 27th International Congress of Entomology (ICE2024 Kyoto, August 25-30, 2024).
