Oryctes rhinoceros (Coconut Rhinoceros Beetles: CRB) is a pest attacks coconut palms in the South Pacific, Southeast and South Asian countries. Since 1960s, a biological control program using Oryctes rhinoceros nudivirus (OrNV) was successfully implemented in the above area including Fiji. However, in the 2000s, CRB invaded Guam and other South Pacific islands. Since the control program in Guam using OrNV was failed, it has been hypothesized that the Guam population is resistant to CRB. However, no study was conducted to compare the susceptibility of different populations to OrNV. To compare susceptibility of CRBs from Guam and Fiji, we first established an oral inoculation method to OrNV. Gross-pathology of CRB inoculated with OrNV are reported.
