Our knowledge on termite phylogeny has been improving ever since the incorporation of molecular markers. So far, around 300 species have been described from India, however, little efforts have been made to barcode them. In this study, we sequenced 53 termite samples from India and phylogenetic trees were constructed in a maximum likelihood framework using IQ-TREE on 13 protein coding genes in combination with two tRNAs and 22 tRNAs. Our tree was congruent with the previously published tree and we consider it as robust to infer the phylogenetic relationships. Morphological analyses indicated that our specimens represented 53 species, while our phylogenetic and BLAST analyses revealed our specimens to be distributed among 48 species at the 98% similarity cutoff. Our results provide much needed genetic resources for the revision of termites taxonomy.
