Symposium
Thu. Mar 26, 2020 4:15 PM - 6:15 PM [Room U] Swan (1F)
Organizers: Yuki Takada-Takatori (Fac Pharm Sci, Doshisha Women's Coll Lib Arts), Satoshi Okuyama (Coll Pharm Sci, Matsuyama Univ)
In an aging society with an extended life expectancy, dementia has become a major public health problem, and the number of patients with dementia continues to increase. There are high unmet medical needs (medical needs that have not been satisfied yet) for dementia, and a drug discovery for fundamental treatment is essential to move beyond current symptomatic treatment. In addition, as a countermeasure against dementia, the Japanese government strongly promotes strategies that prevent, delay the onset of, and suppress the progression of dementia. However, development of new mechanisms underlying dementia treatment and prevention have not been successful so far, and drug discovery targets from a new perspective are required.
In this symposium, six speakers from pharmacology, physical chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapeutics will discuss the development of new therapeutic drugs and the establishment of diagnosis and prevention methods across various fields. In addition, perspectives of future dementia research, drug discovery applications, and drug development will be discussed. Through this symposium, our goals are to share multidisciplinary approaches to dementia research, expand our research capabilities, and discover new mechanisms of action that can lead to the development of innovative new therapeutic and preventive treatments for dementia.
