International Symposium

[IS03] Frontiers in Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry (Joint-symposium of Divisions of Organic Chemistry & Medicinal Chemistry)

Sun. Mar 27, 2022 10:15 AM - 12:15 PM [Room A] Century Hall (Bldg. 1: 2F)

Organizer: Go Hirai (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Kyushu Univ.), Tomohiko Ohwada (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Univ. Tokyo), Yoshio Hayashi (Sch. Pharm., Tokyo Univ. Pharm. & Life Sci.)

Despite the current diversification of modalities, small molecule drugs and/or natural products remain an important group of molecules as pharmaceuticals. On the other hand, the development of new chemical transformation is becoming more and more active, and the chemical space of synthetic molecules is becoming more and more diverse. Under these circumstances, organizers would like to plan a symposium that can actively take advantage of the current reaction technologies and promote educational activities for the creation of next-generation small- and meddle-molecular drugs that go beyond the existing framework. Focusing on the interface between cutting-edge synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, an international symposium with four Japanese front-runners will be held at this annual meeting.
Prof. Hegenrother (University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana), a recipient of the Sato International Memorial Prize, and Prof. Tomislav Rovis (Columbia University) have been invited by the organizing committee of the annual meeting to give lectures. This symposium is a counterpart to these lectures. The Division of Organic Chemical and the Division of Medicinal Chemistry will collaborate to plan this symposium and aim to contribute to the development and enlightenment of this field by providing an opportunity to bring together pharmaceutical research centering on state-of-the-art organic chemistry.

Opening remarks: Go Hirai (Kyushu Univ.) (10:15 AM - 10:17 AM)

Closing remarks: Tomohiko Ohwada (Univ. Tokyo) (12:13 PM - 12:15 PM)
