[S26] Multiple approaches to overcoming infectious diseases

Sun. Mar 26, 2023 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM [Room M2] The Alumni Hall "Frate": Seminar Room (1F)

Organizer: Yasuhiko Matsumoto, Go Kamoshida

Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases caused by bacteria and fungi, as well as COVID-19, have become a recently worldwide problem. These infectious diseases, coupled with problems such as drug-resistance, cannot be controlled by the immunity and therapeutic/preventive drugs that humans have acquired, and are having a serious negative impact not only on human health, but also on all aspects of human activities, including economics and politics. With the recent pandemic of COVID-19, the general public's awareness of infectious diseases and infection control measures has changed dramatically. Under these circumstances, the development of infection control measures and diagnostic and therapeutic agents by applying basic research and fundamental technologies to overcome infectious diseases is a research issue that should be promoted. In this symposium, entitled "Multifaceted Approaches to Overcome Infectious Diseases," young researchers working in various fields of pharmaceutical sciences will present and discuss their research on bacterial and fungal infections from various approaches, including plant infection experiments, experimental evolution, genome analysis, chemical biology, biochemistry, and the development of highly efficient genetic recombination methods.
