[S17] Specialists from various pharmaceutical fields meditate on pharmacy education from the perspective of society

Sun. Mar 26, 2023 1:50 PM - 3:50 PM [Room PS1] (1F)

Organizer: Kayoko Takeda, Sayo Suzuki

Pharmacy education is a discipline based on pedagogical theory and a specialty that exists alongside all forms of professional pharmacy education. In other words, the mission of pharmacy education is to contribute to the improvement of the curriculum to develop excellent human resources who specialize in all areas of pharmaceutical work, ranging from practitioners of basic science to clinical professionals who contribute to society. The Model Core Curriculum clearly indicates the qualities that each pharmaceutical specialization aims to develop. Most universities focus on ways of developing these qualities in the context of undergraduate education by reference to diploma policy. However, beyond undergraduate education, there are broader contexts in which pharmacists are expected to develop their skills in their specialties and contribute to society, and pharmacy students should truly aspire to achieve this goal. This symposium invites 4 lecturers who are active in the world beyond the disciplines, especially in the areas of C, E and F in the Model Core Curriculum. Finally, this symposium will conclude with a discussion of the future prospects of those areas and the thoughts and expectations of the lecturers regarding the future of pharmacy education as they perceive it. We would also like the lecturers to share their opinions with university faculty and pharmacists working in medical facilities to obtain a new perspective on 'pharmacy education' as well as new insights into the future of pharmacy education.
