[S33] MONOTORI science up-to-date

Mon. Mar 27, 2023 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM [Room C1] Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education: S1 (Bldg. S: 1F)

Organizer: Toshio Morikawa, Takaaki Kubota, Masayoshi Arai

“MONOTORI”, which is the research to isolate and determine the structure of naturally occurring products produced by living organisms with the biological phenomena, is recognized as a fundamental research method in natural products chemistry. Natural products with biological activities (active natural products) obtained through MONOROTI research are important not only as seeds for pharmaceuticals but as bio-probes for life science research, and the discovery of novel active natural products would be sometimes leads to the creation of new research fields. This symposium focused on MONOTORI research, which is the basis of diverse natural product research, and would like to invite four symposiasts, who are active at the forefront of the search for novel natural products. The titles of symposium presentations are “Development of functional compounds using chemically unstable compounds obtained from medicinal plants”, “Up to date of cyanobacterial natural products”, “Studies on natural products for bacterial cell-to-cell communication”, and “Learning from natural products: study on actinomycetes of the genus Nocardia”, respectively. In addition, we would like to actively discuss the significance and the real thrill of discovering new natural products, and the importance of MONOTORI research in each specialized field.
