[S34] Implementation and Future of Quantitative NMR in the Pharmaceutical and Food Fields

Mon. Mar 27, 2023 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM [Room D] Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education: S2 (Bldg. S: 2F)

Organizer: Nahoko Uchiyama, Naoki Sugimoto

Quantitative NMR (qNMR) is presently applied for purity determination of reagents used as standards for HPLC quantification by the Japanese Pharmacopoeia, and referred as a quantification method in monographs of the Japan's Specifications and Standards for Food Additives. qNMR has become a new absolute quantification method in various fields such as the pharmaceuticals, food, and food additives. In this symposium, we will address the adoption of qNMR as official standard and introduce the path for the inclusion of qNMR to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which is scheduled to be published in the last half of 2022. Furthermore, guest speakers will introduce operative examples of the use of qNMR for quality control of chemical pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, and natural medicines (namely, quantitative determination of byproducts, metabolites, degradation products, synthetic intermediates, and active pharmaceutical ingredients) from the development to the manufacturing stages in pharmaceutical companies to confirm the current status of qNMR implementation. Then, we will discuss the future uses and applications of qNMR and its potential for development.
