[S48] Biosynthetic enzymes for medicinal chemistry

Tue. Mar 28, 2023 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM [Room A] Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education: Main Hall (Bldg. N: 1F)

Organizer: Richiro Ushimaru, Ikuro Abe

The rapid development of bioinformatics and computational science have greatly enhanced the importance of biosynthetic enzymes, which are responsible for chemical conversions of metabolites in living organisms. Accumulated results have shown their increasing potential for creating chemical compounds potentially useful for pharmaceutical sciences. The impact of biosynthetic enzyme research on drug discovery and production is expected to increase in the future, as it has become active in a wide range of research fields, including the genome mining of unknown natural products and biosynthetic genes, identification of new catalytic functions of enzymes in biosynthesis of biologically active natural products, detailed analysis of enzyme reaction mechanisms, and development of new reactions through functional modification of enzymes.
In this symposium, we will invite leading researchers in various research areas including natural product biosynthesis and enzyme engineering, share the latest accomplishments in the biosynthetic enzyme research, and discuss new possibilities for medicinal chemistry. Please note that the talks will be in English.

Opening remarks: Richiro Ushimaru (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Univ. of Tokyo) (9:00 AM - 9:02 AM)

Closing remarks: Ikuro Abe (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Univ. of Tokyo) (10:57 AM - 11:00 AM)
