[S53] Global and chemical epigenetics in health and disease

Tue. Mar 28, 2023 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM [Room PS1] (1F)

Organizer: Takashi Minami, Takeshi Inagaki, Tomoaki Koga, Atsushi Kaneda, Fumika Yakushiji, Takayoshi Suzuki

Among the advanced nations, it is coming to the super-aging society. Three major mortalities were still significantly increased: cancer, cerebrovascular disease, and heart failure. The recent drug discovery for lifestyle-related diseases substantially improves the QOL during aging. However, further careful research or deep analyses is still needed to understand the microenvironment-mediated advanced tumors and inflammation-or atherothrombosis-mediated diseases. While the human genome decoding projects contributed to the initial understanding of several pathologies, we also realized that many malignant cancers or vascular diseases are based on not only abnormalities in the primary genome sequence but also epigenetic malformation involving histone-methylation/ -acetylation and DNA methylation, which intensely interacted with environmental factors.
Along with the revolutionary progress in epigenome analysis technology, it has been proceeding with long-standing clinically applicable epigenome drugs. Here, we introduce cutting-edge biomedical and fine-chemical research to analyze epigenetic dynamics changes based on carcinogenesis, angiogenesis, inflammation, and obesity, as well as to establish new epigenomic inhibition tools. Through this symposium, we wish to discuss future epigenetic therapy or tools against age-related severe diseases.
