Historically, most of the academic fields that form the foundation of pharmaceutical sciences emerged in Europe and North America, and the centers for fostering human resources were formed mainly by Western research institutions, while Japan and other Asian countries have been developing and expanding their academic environments in line with the West. In recent years, economic exchanges in the Asian region have been revitalized, promoting economic growth and rapid development of the academic environment in Asian countries. At the same time, various issues have emerged that require immediate action on a global scale, such as resources and energy, the environment, and countermeasures against emerging and reemerging infectious diseases. In order to solve these issues, pharmaceutical sciences, which aim to understand and control the interaction between matter and life, are in need of further development. Strengthening cooperation among Asian countries and leading the next generation of pharmaceutical research is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of not only the Asian region but also humankind. Therefore, the board of Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, in cooperation with the Organizing Committee of the 143rd Annual Meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, will hold this Symposium in order to contribute to the development of the next generation of pharmaceutical researchers in Asia. The symposium will present the latest results of ongoing pharmaceutical research in Asia.
