[2F13] Evaluation of the Core Average Characteristics of Super LWR with Spectral Shift Operation
Keywords:GEN-IV, Super-LWR, Supectral shift operation, Core design, Burnup calculation
Super LWR are expected to improve the core reactivity in the late operation cycle, extending the operation cycle length, and increasing the utilization rate of uranium resources by increasing the average coolant density and soften the neutron spectrum during operation as in BWR. However, unlike BWR, Super LWR are single-phase flow through-cooled reactors changing its coolant density with its temperature, which affect the coolability and plant thermal characteristics. In this study, the effects of coolant inlet temperature and flow rate changes on the core average nuclear thermal characteristics were evaluated for a core designed in a previous study. In addition, the reactivity obtained by inserting water exclusion rods in the water rods and withdrawing them during operation were roughly evaluated.
