[P2-113] The Ketogenic Diet As A Treatment in Four Pediatric Patients with Super-refractory Status Epilepticus

Shuizhen Zhou (Department of Neurology, Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China)

[Introduction] To explore the effect and safety of ketogenic diet (KD) for children with Super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE).

[Methodology] Between January 1 and July 31 in 2015, 4 critical children with SRSE were treated with KD, the effect of KD was evaluated with the continuous amplitude-integrated electro-encephalography (aEEG) monitoring.

[Results] All patients met the diagnostic criteria of SRSE monitored by aEEG and achieved ketosis with 24-72h following onset of KD. Seizures were fully controlled in two patients at 7 and 14 days after KD. Two patients got more than 90% seizures reduction at 15 days while KD was ineffective and discontinued in another patient. In all patients, only one patient had severe adverse reaction.

[Conclusions] KD may be considered as an alternative treatment option in pediatric patients with SRSE and aEEG will be one of the useful methods to monitor and evaluate status epilepticus.
