[022] Research on the Relationship between User's Characteristics and Behavior with Park's Design and Location: A study of four thematic parks in Bandung City, Indonesia

This paper explores the characteristic and behavior of thematic parks users, the factors of the usage, and to clarify how each thematical park's physical characteristic and location affects the characteristic of visitors that come, behavior and activities of parks users. The main method for this research is by online questionnaire regarding thematic parks in which respondents choose one thematic park they go to the most, and four thematic parks that are chosen the most as park that they go to the further investigated. The data about the parks is collected by interviewing government officials, field survey and other secondary data to complete the data about the parks. The results, it is revealed that thematic parks in Bandung city is especially popular among people in their 20s. It is also revealed that the characteristics of visitors that come and use the parks is influenced by the location of the park and the facilities accommodated in the park. In addition, the type of facilities accommodated also influence the types of activities in the park. Also, about the surrounding of thematic parks, it is predicted that the working and studying place give more influence than the living place because more visitors come to the park close to their working or studying place rather than where they live. Therefore, it is important to consider the surrounding of the park to predict the potential visitors’ characteristics and design the facilities in accordance with the predicted and targeted visitors and the purpose and the theme of the parks. Even though most thematic parks in Bandung City have shades, from the four parks visitors, in general most visitors avoid going to the park at noon around 11:00-15:00, predicted because of the sun and on weekday most people are either working or studying. It is also revealed that publication in social media influenced the visitors to come to the park. Also, as for now at the time survey, most visitors go to the place by private transportation. Hence, it is important to consider the traffic and availability of parking lot, and to evaluate the effectivities of public transportation. Further study for understanding the usage of the facilities within the park is necessary to further investigate the usage of each facility installed in the park.
