[026] Analysis of potential urban green spaces for absorption of greenhouse gas
キーワード:Greenhouse gas (GHG), Sustainable development, Urban green spaces
Greenhouse gas (GHG) is one of the biggest obstacles for making cities sustainable. It is widely known that GHG has an adverse impact on climate change. Urban green spaces were important in increasing the storage ability of CO2 in vegetation and soil (Edmondson et al., 2012). In particular, urban trees were helpful to contribute to CO2 absorption in the long term (Ariluoma et al., 2021). It is important to identify where to additionally create green space for CO2 absorption as an effective way for sustainable development. Thus, this paper aims to discover potential urban green spaces. To achieve the goal, we develop a method to illustrate where to add green space in an urban area with environmental characteristics and human accessibility. The proposed method uses various urban spatial data such as normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) map and land cover map with geographic information system (GIS). According to the findings, potential green spaces are usually located in public plaza, streets, and public spaces of residential complex. The proposed method in this study is useful to identify additional urban green space as a possible carbon storage and improve human accessibility to urban green space. Additionally, those identified urban green spaces are helpful to develop the management scheme of urban green space and the urban planning process to enlarge urban green space in a city.
