Infrastructure monitoring systems using sensors is attracting attention in domestic market. When using them in a harsh environment such as infrastructures, sensors must have high durability. In this article, we purpose development of a “Chipless Sensor” that is highly durable and non-destructive sensor using radar technique. The chipless sensor consists only of metal matrix pattern without electronic components, thus high durability is expected. When an electromagnetic wave is applied to the chipless sensor, we can confirm a backscattered wave with resonant peaks related to the metal pattern. When water was dropped onto a part of the metal pattern, resonant peaks corresponding to water vanished. These results indicate that our chipless sensor can be applied to moisture sensor for infrastructure monitoring systems.
