[04生-ポ-02] The muscle damage and related pro-inflammatory biomarkers during acute exercise and long-term training in taekwondo athletes

Damage and inflammatory responses to the training of taekwondo athletes

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the response of muscle damage and related pro-inflammatory biomarkers in taekwondo athletes during acute competition and different season cycles. Methods: Twenty-four elite taekwondo athletes were collected and measured in each period of annual periodization training: pre-season (the week before the general preparation period, periodization#1, P1), specialized preparation period (the last 2-3 weeks of the specialized preparation period, periodization#2, P2), and competition period (the week of the pre-tournament reduction period, periodization#3, P3). Twenty-four taekwondo athletes completed the experimental treatment of TKD match-simulated kicking (TMSK), followed by the experimental treatment of real match (RM) after a one-week interval. Results: Taekwondo athletes had significantly higher creatine kinase in P3 (539.5 ± 89.7 U/L) than in P1 (205.5 ± 29.4 U/L) and P2 (255.3 ± 27.8 U/L) (p < .05). However, there were no any difference in white blood cell counts (WBC), neutrophils-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) at different season cycles. Taekwondo players were found to have higher muscle damage and inflammation after the competition using the real-match model (p < .05). Conclusions: This study found that elite taekwondo athletes reacted differently to muscle damage and inflammation in different cycles or training modes, and this is related to the demands of taekwondo. Moreover, this study demonstrated that taekwondo athletes had a higher muscle damage response and inflammation after competitions when compare with match-simulated kicking.
