[1Dp08] Theory of resonant angle-resolved photoemission and Auger emission from surfaces

*Peter Krueger1 (1. Graduate School of Engineering, Chiba University)

A theory for angle-resolved resonant photoemission is presented and applied to 2p3d3d and 2p3p3d spectra of nickel. We reproduce and explain the complex angular dependence of the resonant photoelectron intensity map, especially of its circular dichroism signal, which was reported in recent experiments. It is shown that the CD signal is mainly a sum of two effects: the XMCD in the core-excitation step and the Daimon effect due to photoelectron scattering. The angular momentum of the photon is partially transfered to the emitted electron and partially to the ionized surface which can give rise to reversal of the CD signal for certain binding energies. In the end a simple theory for resonant spectator Auger and normal Auger is outlined and successfully applied to Cu 2p3d3d Auger spectra and their CD in angular distribution.
